Breast augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The implants can be placed:

Subglandularly (above the muscle) for more natural softness in suitable patients

Submuscularly (under the muscle) for added support and a more natural slope

The incision is usually made in one of three discreet areas:

Inframammary fold (under the breast)

Periareolar (around the nipple)

Transaxillary (through the armpit – less common)
